Change launches construction and property division

First strategic move for recruitment firm since launch of The Taranata Group

Change Recruitment has launched a construction and property division with the appointment of a senior construction recruitment specialist.

Andrew Stephen has been appointed Director of Construction, Property & Infrastructure, bringing over 25 years’ industry experience to head up the new division.

He joined Change from Search Consultancy, where he was responsible for running the largest construction recruitment business in Scotland.  Andrew’s recruitment career began in 1998 at Rullion Alltrades, where he worked his way through the ranks to regional director.  He joined Search in 2004.

Andrew has already appointed three new recruits to join two existing consultants to form a small construction team across Change’s Glasgow and Edinburgh offices.  Michael Waugh, Emmet West and Damian Carney started at Change in October, bringing further construction recruitment experience and capability, helping to secure 10 new clients with a range of immediate recruitment needs.

The creation of the new construction division is the first major strategic business decision implemented by Change to support a new growth strategy since it was acquired by entrepreneur Paul Atkinson in May this year.  Last month, Atkinson launched The Taranata Group, a group of four companies comprising Change Recruitment, Head Resourcing, Head Medical and Atkinson MacLeod.

Mark McFall, managing director, Change Recruitment said:

Andrew’s appointment marks the first step in our ambitious plans for future growth.  We are aiming to achieve significant presence in the construction sector and build a substantial business that will generate additional fee and revenue.

Construction and property recruitment is a huge potential market for us in Scotland, the UK and internationally.  It offers a client base that we largely don’t serve currently.  It is a candidate driven market, with major opportunity for substantial recurring revenues from the provision of temporary workers.  There’s also opportunity to cross-sell talent into the sector from our other finance, accountancy and IT divisions.

Plans are in place to grow the construction team headcount in early 2018 with another three consultants to support the delivery of a total recruitment solution for the construction industry across all roles, from general labourer to construction director.  Change is aiming to target all areas of the construction market, including civil engineers, house builders and main contractors.
