Head Medical appoints new chair

Head Medical, the Edinburgh-based international medical recruitment specialist, has appointed Doctor Olivia Kessel as chair.

Dr Kessel joins the organisation with a career spanning two decades in healthcare, focusing on patient empowerment and creating patient-centric solutions.

A skilled and accomplished leader driven by a passion for patients, Dr Kessel has worked across various geographies and cultures, from the medical ward and leading biopharmaceutical companies to founding a not-for-profit in Swaziland.

In 2015, she launched the UK division of AbbVie Care, recruiting 45 individuals to implement a holistic and tailored approach to patient care that goes beyond prescribed medication.  The solutions she has delivered have led to improved patient experience and outcomes, cost efficiencies and a clear return on investment for the business.

In the last year, Dr Kessel founded Mwanzo, a consultancy which works with a range of organisations in the healthcare sector to advise on the development and implementation of patient empowerment strategies.

Her role at Head Medical will be to support the company strategically, and direct the management team by offering guidance and advice on day-to-day business, as well as helping to develop new ventures and revenue streams as the business seeks strong growth.

Jim Godsal, managing director at Head Medical said:

Olivia has a really pertinent background – she’s a Doctor who has worked in the UK, Ireland, the US and across Africa, plus she has extensive commercial (biopharma) and NGO experience.  This experience will resonate strongly with our internal team, our clients and our candidates, and her insights will be extremely valuable as we develop existing and new workstreams.

This is an exciting time at Head Medical, and I’m confident that Olivia will be a great asset to the company as we look to develop and grow further over the next few years.

Head Medical is part of The Taranata Group, a group of four companies owned by recruitment investor Paul Atkinson, comprising Head Resourcing, Change Recruitment, Head Medical and Atkinson MacLeod.  The recruitment ‘supergroup’, which is headquartered in Scotland, employs almost 150 people and turns over around £65m.
