Head Medical Secures GP Contract for NHS England

– Edinburgh firm appointed to source overseas GPs for London –

Head Medical, the Edinburgh-based international medical recruitment specialist, has secured a contract to recruit GPs for London.

Head Medical is one of a number of recruitment agencies currently recruiting for the NHS England International GP Recruitment Programme, which is aiming to recruit around 2,000 doctors from overseas into English general practice by 2020.

Head Medical was appointed as part of a recruitment framework to fill GP vacancies for surgeries in the north east and south east of London.

The contract is Head Medical’s first award from the framework since being appointed late last year.

Jim Godsal, managing director at Head Medical said:

“The NHS needs more GPs and international recruitment is an effective solution that is mutually beneficial for the NHS in England and overseas medical talent.  Foreign nationals make a huge contribution to the health service and several NHS regions around the country are starting to benefit from much-needed capacity from overseas GPs.

“We have already started initial work to identify suitable candidates, utilising our extensive network of contacts across Europe and it’s likely we will arrange on-the-ground events and marketing in target countries.”

Head Medical is part of the Taranata Group, a group of four companies owned by recruitment investor Paul Atkinson, comprising Head Resourcing, Change Recruitment, Head Medical and Atkinson MacLeod.  The recruitment ‘supergroup’, which is headquartered in Scotland, employs almost 150 people and has an annual turnover around £65 million.
